Project information
Alvin ISD Child Nutrition believes in, “Eat Smart. Be Smart.” This is rooted in their vision and mission statements, as well as in their beliefs.
Over time at Manvel High School, the kitchen, servery and dining areas lagged behind the newer schools in capacity, flexibility, and décor. The scope goal originally was to bring the servery up to standards both aesthetically as well as functionally, all within an efficient budget, including expanding upon an existing outdoor seating area that desperately needed shading elements for the students’ use. Bringing life to the old space, the concept is dynamic and flexible, utilizing an open servery ‘scramble’ and a ‘wild card corner’ to play to the servery’ s flexibility. The design elements are sophisticated, yet simple and inexpensive as the materials are used in unusual ways. Strategic existing materials were left untouched to maximize the budget but incorporated into the design seamlessly. The highlight of the new servery will be the ceiling details, including an accent track, subtly highlighting the school’s colors. The goal is to highlight the way the cafeteria interacts with the students, give them a sophisticated ‘university dining’ experience, and allow for the flexibility innately designed into the space to grow with the school for many years to come.
